Senior Energy Analyst

Australia / Remote • Permanent Full-time

Gridcognition is a fast-growing software startup with a mission to accelerate the transition to a decentralised and zero-emissions energy system.

There will be trillions of dollars of investment in new energy resources over the coming decades as the energy system becomes decentralised, electrified, and zero-emissions. Gridcognition is here to help the people rolling out new energy resources to get both the best economic outcome for their stakeholders and the best environmental outcome to tackle the climate crisis.

Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Senior Energy Analyst to join our Customer Team to guide our customers and develop complex project models across virtual power plants, community energy systems, emobility solutions, hydrogen production systems, and renewable energy and battery storage projects.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Chief Revenue Officer and working as part of a close-knit Customer Team, you will work directly with our customers across the entire customer life-cycle.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Be an expert user of Gridcognition’s software platform
  • Maintain expert knowledge of Australia’s changing energy market landscape
  • Help customers create complex pre-project techno-economic l and financial models
  • Help customers to create post-project portfolio tracking models and ad-hoc reports
  • Help create videos and other customer success content to guide users of our software
  • Create and maintain re-usable sample projects and modelling inputs, including tariff definitions, market prices, equipment prices, utilisation schedules, and degradation schedules
  • Support customers to create and maintain asset telemetry and site meter data feeds for their deployed assets
  • Help guide the product roadmap and help to test the software platform

About you

You will know your kilowatt hours from your kilovolt-ampere reactive hours; contingency fcas from regulation fcas, and the difference between the physical energy market and the financial energy market. You will know why a 12-month ratchet in a network tariff is significant, why it’s so important to model battery degradation accurately, and why tracking grid-emissions at the interval level will help unlock investment in clean energy resources beyond solar. (Or if you don’t know all those things you’ll have the intellectual curiosity to find out more and become an expert over time).

You will have a tertiary qualification in an engineering, commercial, or mathematical field, and may come from a renewable energy, energy markets, energy networks, or financial modelling background, but your knowledge and experience will integrate all of these areas together; just like our software platform.

You understand the importance of a beautiful set of numbers to get a project over the line. Most of all you will be an excellent communicator, and know that while you have to get all the details right, you also have to be able to explain why they matter.

While we are recruiting a mid-career role (the ‘Senior’ in ‘Senior Energy Analyst’), we are open to early-career professionals who are passionate about clean energy and who have excellent analytical skills.
