Join the Team

At Gridcognition, we believe that the world’s big problems need big nerds to solve them.

Open Roles:

Full Stack Software Engineer

About you

You are curious and creative; pragramatic and resourceful. You are excited about the idea of joining a small but mighty technical team accelerating the global energy system transition: clean, green, smart, and decentralised. You don’t have to be an expert in distributed energy technology, or in the intricacies of energy markets, but you’re always keen to learn new things.

You are a true full-stack developer: equally happy hacking in React and NodeJS, TypeScript, JavaScript and Python, AWS Amplify and Fargate. You love good development practices, automated CI/CD pipeline, and well tested software.

You love finding out more about how customers are using the tech you are building, and are always striving to make their lives easier: removing friction and frustration from the UX and adding in a big dose of delight.

You still closely follow what’s new and exciting in frameworks, programming languages, and architectural ideas; but when the time comes to build something for our customers you err on the side of choosing simple and supportable, fast and secure, over the absolute bleeding edge.

You are happy working independently and remotely (our current team is spread across GMT+8, GMT+10, and GMT+13).

Data Scientist & Python Developer

You have a background in maths, physics or hard computer science and you are fascinated by modern data science techniques, statistical machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

You are also a hands-on developer who is happy spending their day in Jupyter Notebooks wrangling data, training models, writing Python code and tests, and directly developing our simulation and optimisation engine. You are very comfortable working with Git, Bash, Docker, and AWS.

We’re pretty agnostic about career stage, but if you are early in your career then you don’t need lots of hand holding, and you are happy working independently (our current team is spread across GMT+8 and GMT+10, and GMT+13).

It would be amazing (but optional) if you’ve done some work in the power sector and you know the difference between energy and power; you can explain marginal loss factors or contract max demand; or you know how to forecast load or model solar irradiance.

About our technical team and technology

We are a highly collaborative, and high-performing product, software engineering and data science team, spread across three time-zones.

Our cultural values are: 🤨 Smart, savvy, and curious 😅 Move fast and play to win 🤩 Inventive and future-focused 😆 Fun and collaborative.

The heart of Gridcognition is our custom developed simulation and optimisation engine, which is written in Python. We run our simulation and optimisations using Fargate, orchestrated by JavaScript Lambda functions that integrate our AWS data environment including our data lake, data integrations, data visualisations, and our web environment.

Our web environment provides user access management, an interactive project designer, project library, and access to the results of the simulation and optimisation runs. The technology we use here includes JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Apollo Client, GraphQL, Amplify, Cognito, and Dynamo DB.

Meet the Team

To build the technology that makes all this possible, we've assembled a crack team of energy gurus, software engineers and data scientists.
